Steve Broadbent was elected to Johns Creek City Council – Post 6 in a special runoff election held in the July 2014. In December 2014, Steve was unanimously elected as Mayor Pro Tem by the City Council.
Steve Broadbent is a successful and respected small business owner who provides specialized consulting services to publicly traded, and large, privately held corporations. His previous business experience includes 11 years with AT&T where he last served as a Sales Vice President in Los Angeles.
Additionally, Steve was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to serve as a Deputy Assistant Secretary in the U.S. Department of the Treasury where he worked throughout the Bush Administration. Prior to and during his term with the Treasury Department, Steve was a member of, and led many White House Advance Teams for President Bush during his terms as Vice President and President. His work with the White House Advance Office included a number of diplomatic missions throughout Europe and the Mideast, including the teams for the summit meetings with then-USSR General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev and NATO conferences. Upon completion of his service at the Treasury Department, Steve received the Meritorious Service Award from the Secretary of the Treasury, and the Commissioner’s Award, the highest award presented by the Commissioner of the IRS, for his outstanding service.
Steve began his career as an officer in the United States Navy where he served assignments at sea, in the Mideast, and in Washington, DC. He retired from the Navy as a Commander following 22 years on active duty and time in Navy Reserves.
Steve’s parents were Navy Officers and World War II veterans, taught him the value of service to both his community and country. As a young man, Steve spearheaded a number of community service projects, earning him his Eagle Scout badge in the Boy Scouts. In college, he was a volunteer with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad (Charlottesville, VA) and a member of the Rescue Squad’s first class of Cardiac EMTs (paramedics).
Steve and his wife, Mary, have been married for 24 years. Sixteen years ago, they moved from Los Angeles to Johns Creek with their two daughters, Kate and Grace. The Broadbents are active members of St. Benedict Catholic Church..
